Issue with craters filled with water

Creating a crater in a marshy area (one many bodies of water in a close proximity) creates a strange, foamy water texture that seems to trigger a brief flashing of black boxes across the screen.

It only happens when the crater is created between two bodies of water. If the crater touches an existing body of water, the texture seems to be fine and no black boxes appear. I've repeated this several times with the same results.

The texture seems to be related to the waves in normal bodies of water.
